Welcome to Our Home Page
We run in Birmingham, Alabama, USA and the surrounding area.
Founded by Larry Stray Dog McDowell on 6 Jan 2002
Birmingham Hash House Harriers is a family style hash that runs
at the whim of its Grand Master (GM) (click on hareline schedule).
It is a social running club where ability is less important than just having fun. We make a
game out of running and enjoy a fraternity spirit after the runs with refreshments
and a bit of song. Everyone is welcome to our runs/walks,
young and old, slow or fast, runners or brisk walkers... The Hash House Harriers
is a fun sporting group who will judge you by nothing more than your sense of humor.
Hey, just come on out and show up - you'll be glad you did!
Schedule -
Always consult the schedule by clicking on Hareline in the menu above and always check it
less than a day out to make sure details or the run itself has not changed or cancelled.
Runs usually start exactly on time, so try to get there about 15 minutes before the start time
indicated to get details of the day's trail, sign in and socialize. To visitors from other hashes, if
you get there socially late as is done in some other hashes, you will find the pack is gone.
Just hit the trail and try to catch up. Floor space and bedding is always available
at Stray Dog's kennel for out of town visitors who want to stay overnight.
We will rotate runs back and forth from in town to out of town so that those in the suburbs can
enjoy a shorter trip to the hash periodically and maybe even volunteer to hare!
Want to Hare? -
The Okinawa tradition must be 'learned'. The trails are
always live and always well-marked (or else), so to become a hare in this
tradition, you must be trained. This means that you must practice at least
three times for a trail with the trailmaster. You co-hare a trail with an
experienced hare in this style of hashing before being allowed to put your
own trail on the hareline. The trail tradition we follow is practiced in or
has influenced the traditions of hundreds of hashes. It is very
successful and I think you will find it that way as well.
You can find out more information about the basic trail markings below at our
Trail Manual linked in the menu above.
Email List -

To subscribe to the Birmingham Area Hash House Harriers email list,
Email your request and
ask Stray Dog to subscribe you to the BhamHHH email list. Put "Subscribe BhamHHH"
in the subject line (he handles several lists), repeat that in the body of
the message and put your name and hash name if you have one. To send a message to the list,
send it to the list keeper
putting "To BhamHHH Email List" in the subject line.
Make sure items sent are something we all want to read and,
please, no attachments, spam or flames. Thanks.
Harriers and Harriettes Wanted -
We encourage you to bring your friends and family to the hash. To help this,
those who bring a person who has never hashed before, your donation to the hash cash
will be unnecessary for that run. I know, in this area, those who drink don't like to
run and those who run don't like to drink. No problem. For those concerned
about power drinking at long down downs or marathon trails, the Bham tradition is
moderation in everything except at designated pub crawls - hashing should be fun, not
a DUI production and softies are always available and suggested for designated
drivers. There is usually a relatively short down down, but there is almost always
a pay your own way On-After with food and refreshment for those who need more social
activity (traditionally, the hare provides the first pitcher!) So nobody has
an excuse anymore, so bring them along!
Don't wimp out again, come out and get a start on your New Year's Hash
resolution - anytime of the year!
Cheers and On On!
